Human Body

The Gnathostoma spinigerum is a helminth, or worm-type parasite. Because humans are accidental rather than direct hosts, the worms can't reproduce in a human body, so they live out their 10- to 12-year life cycle migrating throughout the body, causing swelling under the skin.
